Gurdwara Haji Rattan

Image
Gurdwara Haji Rattan is situated at Bathinda and is around 2 km from city center. The Gurdwara is named after Haji Rattan, a Muslim saint, who was close to some Sikh Gurus who visited the place during their lifetime. The tomb of Haji Rattan and a mosque lies next to the Gurdwara. People belonging to Sikh and Muslim communities throng these places on auspicious occasions and celebrate their festivals. Haji Rattan is a most unusual name for a Sikh Gurdwara. While on his way to Talwandi Sabo Guru Gobind Singh camped here for the night outside the mausoleum of the Muslim saint Haji Rattan. The tomb\'s keepers tried to dissuade the Guru from sleeping here with the excuse that the place was haunted. Since Sikhs don\'t build tombs and the Guru like other Sikhs didn\'t believe in ghosts he spent the night here to show the people that such superstitions were ungrounded. One of the most intriguing things is that Haji Ratan of Bhatinda in Punjab is claimed by Hindus, Mus

Gurdwara Mata Kaulan Sahib

Image
Gurdwara Mata Kaulan Sahib or Gurdwara Kaulsar Sahib is a sacred Sikh shrine on the west-side of Gurdwara Baba Atal in Amritsar, Punjab near the main Darbar Sahib at Harmandar Sahib. Next to the Gurdwara Mata Kaulan lies a Sarovar (pool) known as Kaulsar Sahib or Kaulsar Sarvor, named after a holy lady who was raised as a Muslim called Bibi Kaulan, the adopted (possibly Hindu) daughter of the Qazi of Lahore. Mata Kaulan was a spiritual woman during time of Guru Hargobind Sahib. Kaulan means the one who is Living in abode of Lotus. There are different views of historians regarding Mata Kaulan and her relation with Guru Hargobind with one common view that she was true disciple of Guru Hargobind. She had been kidnapped by a Muslim priest of the court called Qazi Rustam Khan. He was based in Lahore, Pakistan. Qazi Rustam Khan had stolen her from her Hindu parents while she was a child. The Qazi gave her the education of Islam and sent her to Saint Mian Mir for higher schooling.

It was subsequently repaired by the Govt. of Pakistan in 1995 incurring expenditures in lakhs of rupees. The Gurudwara at Kartarpur has a spacious and beautiful building and can be seen from another Gurudwara located across the Indian border in the historical town of Dehra Baba Nanak. The shrine is located about 3 kms from the Indo-Pakistan border. Unlike other holy places of Sikh religion in Pakistan, this Gurudwara is one of its kinds.  According to Sikh history when Guru Nanak died, Hindus and Muslims disagreed upon how to perform his last rites. A samadhi (Hindu tradition) lies in the Gurudwara and a grave (according to
